The Austin Browncoats, founded in 2007, is a non-profit corporation in the State of Texas. The Austin Browncoats work to end violence and discrimination in all sectors of society. We place special focus on working alongside young women and children because, given the opportunity and proper education, young women and children can help create a better world for all beings. Much like our passion for the amazing works of Joss Whedon, such as “Firefly”, we are passionate about our causes and raising funds for our charities, including Equality Now, SafePlace, Heart House and Emancipet.

The Austin Browncoats' first charity fundraiser was 2007's Can't Stop the Serenity on June 23rd, 2007. This was Austin's first year organizing a screening for CSTS. Austin raised almost $7,000 for Equality Now. The Austin Browncoats hosted CSTS at the Original Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, helping that location close its doors with a bang; the Original Alamo Drafthouse location closed later that week.

The Austin Browncoats also had the honor of assisting in 2008's Can't Stop The Serenity. Elizabeth Nelson was named as the Global Organizer. The Austin Browncoats helped form a Global Committee, designed by Nelson, to assist in attaining global sponsorships and raffle prizes. Austin's CSTS 2008 event raised $10,883.40, and their 2009 event raised over $19,000. The Austin Browncoats also organized the first CSTS event in San Antonio, TX.

Geekstravaganza is an event the Austin Browncoats began in 2007. The first event was held on October 21st, 2007. Not only did the nation's premiere Firefly-related band, The Bedlam Bards perform, but Geekstravaganza 2007 also included an All-Geek Talent Show, an All-Nerd Costume Contest and an all Sci-Fi Trivia Bee. The event benefited the charities: The Austin Browncoats and Heart House Austin. Geektravaganza 2009 occurred on May 17, 2009.

The Austin Browncoats hosted the 2008 Browncoat Ball.

The Austin Browncoats get together every First Sunday of the Month to watch their favorite Firefly episodes.
